1.1

“Yaṁ kiccaṁ daḷhavīriyena,

The duty of one whose energy is strong;

1.2

yaṁ kiccaṁ boddhumicchatā;

the duty of one who longs to wake up:

1.3

Karissaṁ nāvarajjhissaṁ,

that I’ll do, I won’t fail—

1.4

passa vīriyaṁ parakkamaṁ.

see my energy and vigor!

2.1

Tvañca me maggamakkhāhi,

Teach me the path,

2.2

añjasaṁ amatogadhaṁ;

the direct route whose objective is freedom from death.

2.3

Ahaṁ monena monissaṁ,

I’ll know it with wisdom,

2.4

gaṅgāsotova sāgaran”ti.

as the Ganges knows the ocean.
