“Saṁyojaniye ca, bhikkhave, dhamme desessāmi saṁyojanañca.

“Mendicants, I will teach you the things that tighten the fetters, and the fetter.

Katame ca, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyā dhammā, katamañca saṁyojanaṁ?

What are the things that tighten the fetters? And what is the fetter?

Cakkhuṁ, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyo dhammo.

The eye is something that tightens the fetters.

Yo tattha chandarāgo, taṁ tattha saṁyojanaṁ …pe…

The desire and greed for it is the fetter.

jivhā saṁyojaniyo dhammo …pe…

The ear … nose … tongue … body …

mano saṁyojaniyo dhammo.

mind is something that tightens the fetters.

Yo tattha chandarāgo, taṁ tattha saṁyojanaṁ.

The desire and greed for it is the fetter.

Ime vuccanti, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyā dhammā, idaṁ saṁyojanan”ti.

These are called the things that tighten the fetters, and this is the fetter.”
