So It Was Said 33 The Book of the Twos Chapter One Ethics (2nd) (ITI33)

1.1

Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

2.1

“Dvīhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato puggalo yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge.

“Mendicants, an individual with two qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.

2.2

Katamehi dvīhi?

What two?

2.3

Bhaddakena ca sīlena, bhaddikāya ca diṭṭhiyā.

Excellent conduct and excellent view.

2.4

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvīhi dhammehi samannāgato puggalo yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge”ti.

An individual with these two qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.”

2.5

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.

The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

On this it is said:

“Bhaddakena ca sīlena,

“If a person possesses

bhaddikāya ca diṭṭhiyā;

these two qualities—

Etehi dvīhi dhammehi,

excellent conduct

3.4

yo samannāgato naro;

and excellent views—

3.5

Kāyassa bhedā sappañño,

when their body breaks up, that wise person

3.6

saggaṁ so upapajjatī”ti.

is reborn in heaven.”

4.1

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
