Khuddakanikāya Dhammapada Arahantavagga Jīvakapañhavatthu

Ðích đã đến, không sầu,

Gataddhino visokassa,

At journey’s end, rid of sorrow;

Giải thoát ngoài tất cả,

vippamuttassa sabbadhi;

everywhere free,

Ðoạn trừ mọi buộc ràng,

Sabbaganthappahīnassa,

all ties given up,

Vị ấy không nhiệt não.

pariḷāho na vijjati.

no fever is found in them.

Chuyện Trưởng lão Mahā Kassapa (Ca-diếp)

Mahākassapattheravatthu

Tự sách tấn chánh niệm,

Uyyuñjanti satīmanto,

The mindful apply themselves;

Không thích cư xá nào,

na nikete ramanti te;

they delight in no abode.

Như ngỗng trời rời ao,

Haṁsāva pallalaṁ hitvā,

Like a swan gone from the marsh,

Bỏ sau mọi trú ẩn.

okamokaṁ jahanti te.

they leave home after home behind.

Belaṭṭhasīsattheravatthu

Tài sản không chất chứa,

Yesaṁ sannicayo natthi,

Those with nothing stored up,

Ăn uống biết liễu trì,

ye pariññātabhojanā;

who have understood their food,

Tự tại trong hành xứ,

Suññato animitto ca,

whose domain is the liberation

Không vô tướng, giải thoát,

vimokkho yesaṁ gocaro;

of the signless and the empty:

Như chim giữa hư không,

Ākāseva sakuntānaṁ,

their path is hard to trace,

Hướng chúng đi khó tìm.

gati tesaṁ durannayā.

like birds in the sky.

Chuyện Trưởng lão Anuruddha (A-nậu-lâu-đà)

Anuruddhattheravatthu

Ai lậu hoặc đoạn sạch,

Yassāsavā parikkhīṇā,

One whose defilements have ended;

Ăn uống không tham đắm,

āhāre ca anissito;

who’s not attached to food;

Tự tại trong hành xứ,

Suññato animitto ca,

whose domain is the liberation

Không, vô tướng, giải thoát.

vimokkho yassa gocaro;

of the signless and the empty:

Như chim giữa hư không,

Ākāseva sakuntānaṁ,

their track is hard to trace,

Dấu chân thật khó tìm.

padaṁ tassa durannayaṁ.

like birds in the sky.

Chuyện Trưởng lão Mahā Kaccāyana (Ca-chiên-diên)

Mahākaccāyanattheravatthu

Ai nhiếp phục các căn,

Yassindriyāni samathaṅgatāni,

Whose faculties have become serene,

Như đánh xe điều ngự,

Assā yathā sārathinā sudantā;

like horses tamed by a charioteer,

Mạn trừ, lậu hoặc dứt,

Pahīnamānassa anāsavassa,

who has abandoned conceit and defilements;

Người vậy, Chư Thiên mến.

Devāpi tassa pihayanti tādino.

the unaffected one is envied by even the gods.

Chuyện Trưởng lão Sāriputta (Xá-lợi-phất)

Sāriputtattheravatthu

Như đất không hiềm hận,

Pathavisamo no virujjhati,

Undisturbed like the earth,

Như cột trụ kiên trì,

Indakhilupamo tādi subbato;

true to their vows, steady as Indra’s pillar,

Như hồ, không bùn nhơ,

Rahadova apetakaddamo,

like a lake clear of mud;

Không luân hồi, vị ấy.

Saṁsārā na bhavanti tādino.

such a one does not transmigrate.

Chuyện Trưởng lão Tissa ở xứ Kosambi

Kosambivāsitissattherasāmaṇeravatthu

Người tâm ý an tịnh,

Santaṁ tassa manaṁ hoti,

Their mind is peaceful,

Lời an, nghiệp cũng an,

santā vācā ca kamma ca;

peaceful are their speech and deeds.

Chánh trí, chơn giải thoát,

Sammadaññāvimuttassa,

Such a one is at peace,

Tịnh lạc là vị ấy.

upasantassa tādino.

rightly freed through enlightenment.

Chuyện Trưởng lão Sāriputta (Xá-lợi-phất)

Sāriputtattheravatthu

Không tin, hiểu Vô vi.

Assaddho akataññū ca,

Lacking faith, a house-breaker,

Người cắt mọi hệ lụy,

sandhicchedo ca yo naro;

one who acknowledges nothing,

Cơ hội tận, xả ly

Hatāvakāso vantāso,

purged of hope, they’ve wasted their chance:

Vị ấy thật tối thượng.

sa ve uttamaporiso.

that is indeed the supreme person!

Chuyện Trưởng lão Revata ở rừng Keo

Khadiravaniyarevatattheravatthu

Làng mạc hay rừng núi

Gāme vā yadi vāraññe,

Whether in village or wilderness,

Thung lũng hay đồi cao,

Ninne vā yadi vā thale;

in a valley or the uplands,

La-hán trú chỗ nào,

Yattha arahanto viharanti,

wherever the perfected ones live

Ðất ấy thật khả ái.

Taṁ bhūmirāmaṇeyyakaṁ.

is a delightful place.

Chuyện người nữ quyến rũ sa-môn

Aññataraitthivatthu

Khả ái thay núi rừng,

Ramaṇīyāni araññāni,

Delightful are the wildernesses

Chỗ người phàm không ưa,

yattha na ramatī jano;

where no people delight.

Vị ly tham ưa thích,

Vītarāgā ramissanti,

Those free of greed will delight there,

Vì không tìm dục lạc.

na te kāmagavesino.

not those who seek sensual pleasures.
