Khuddakanikāya Dhammapada Cittavagga Meghiyattheravatthu

Tâm hoảng hốt giao động,

Phandanaṁ capalaṁ cittaṁ,

The mind quivers and quakes,

Khó hộ trì, khó nhiếp,

dūrakkhaṁ dunnivārayaṁ;

hard to guard, hard to curb.

Người trí làm tâm thẳng,

Ujuṁ karoti medhāvī,

The discerning straighten it out,

Như thợ tên, làm tên.

usukārova tejanaṁ.

like a fletcher an arrow.

Như cá quăng lên bờ,

Vārijova thale khitto,

Like a fish pulled from the sea

Vất ra ngoài thủy giới;

okamokataubbhato;

and cast upon the shore,

Tâm này vùng vẫy mạnh,

Pariphandatidaṁ cittaṁ,

this mind flounders about,

Hãy đoạn thế lực Ma.

māradheyyaṁ pahātave.

trying to throw off Māra’s dominion.

Aññatarabhikkhuvatthu

Khó nắm giữ, khinh động,

Dunniggahassa lahuno,

Hard to hold back, flighty,

Theo các dục quay cuồng.

yatthakāmanipātino;

alighting where it will;

Lành thay, điều phục tâm;

Cittassa damatho sādhu,

it’s good to tame the mind;

cittaṁ dantaṁ sukhāvahaṁ.

a tamed mind leads to bliss.

Aññataraukkaṇṭhitabhikkhuvatthu

Tâm khó thấy, tế nhị,

Sududdasaṁ sunipuṇaṁ,

So hard to see, so subtle,

Theo các dục quay cuồng.

yatthakāmanipātinaṁ;

alighting where it will;

Người trí phòng hộ tâm,

Cittaṁ rakkhetha medhāvī,

the discerning protect the mind,

Tâm hộ, an lạc đến.

cittaṁ guttaṁ sukhāvahaṁ.

a guarded mind leads to bliss.

Saṅgharakkhitabhāgineyyattheravatthu

Chạy xa, sống một mình,

Dūraṅgamaṁ ekacaraṁ,

The mind travels far, wandering alone;

Không thân, ẩn hang sâu,

asarīraṁ guhāsayaṁ;

incorporeal, it lies hidden in the heart.

Ai điều phục được tâm,

Ye cittaṁ saṁyamissanti,

Those who will restrain the mind

Thoát khỏi Ma trói buộc.

mokkhanti mārabandhanā.

are freed from Māra’s bonds.

Cittahatthattheravatthu

Ai tâm không an trú,

Anavaṭṭhitacittassa,

Those of unsteady mind,

Không biết chân diệu pháp,

saddhammaṁ avijānato;

who don’t understand the true teaching,

Tịnh tín bị rúng động,

Pariplavapasādassa,

and whose confidence wavers,

Trí tuệ không viên thành.

paññā na paripūrati.

do not perfect their wisdom.

Tâm không đầy tràn dục,

Anavassutacittassa,

One whose mind is not festering,

Tâm không (hận) công phá,

ananvāhatacetaso;

whose heart is undamaged,

Ðoạn tuyệt mọi thiện ác,

Puññapāpapahīnassa,

who’s given up right and wrong,

Kẻ tỉnh không sợ hãi.

natthi jāgarato bhayaṁ.

alert, has nothing to fear.

Pañcasatabhikkhuvatthu

Biết thân như đồ gốm,

Kumbhūpamaṁ kāyamimaṁ viditvā,

Knowing this body breaks like a pot,

Trú tâm như thành trì,

Nagarūpamaṁ cittamidaṁ ṭhapetvā;

and fortifying the mind like a citadel,

Chống Ma với gươm trí;

Yodhetha māraṁ paññāvudhena,

attack Māra with the sword of wisdom,

Giữ chiến thắng không tham

Jitañca rakkhe anivesano siyā.

guard your conquest, and never settle.

Pūtigattatissattheravatthu

Không bao lâu thân này,

Aciraṁ vatayaṁ kāyo,

All too soon this body

Sẽ nằm dài trên đất,

pathaviṁ adhisessati;

will lie upon the earth,

Bị vất bỏ, vô thức,

Chuddho apetaviññāṇo,

bereft of consciousness,

Như khúc cây vô dụng.

niratthaṁva kaliṅgaraṁ.

tossed aside like a worthless log.

Nandagopālakavatthu

Kẻ thù hại kẻ thù,

Diso disaṁ yaṁ taṁ kayirā,

A wrongly directed mind

Oan gia hại oan gia,

verī vā pana verinaṁ;

would do you more harm

Không bằng tâm hướng tà,

Micchāpaṇihitaṁ cittaṁ,

than a hater to the hated,

Gây ác cho tự thân.

pāpiyo naṁ tato kare.

or an enemy to their foe.

Soreyyavatthu

Ðiều mẹ cha bà con,

Na taṁ mātā pitā kayirā,

A rightly directed mind

Không có thể làm được,

aññe vāpi ca ñātakā;

would do you more good

Tâm hướng chánh làm được

Sammāpaṇihitaṁ cittaṁ,

than your mother or father

Làm được tốt đẹp hơn.

seyyaso naṁ tato kare.

or any other relative.
